Police, community first responders and an ambulance crew were called out after a road accident on the B833 last weekend.

A car landed on its side by the junction for Rosneath Castle Caravan Park at around 4pm on Saturday.

There have been repeated calls for safety measures to be taken at that corner after a series of accidents in recent years.

A petition is calling for heavy vehicles to be banned from the narrow A814 beside Loch Long.

Argyll and Bute Council has put up signs saying the road is unsuitable for large vehicles, but last week the stretch between Whistlefield and Arrochar was once again blocked by traffic after the A82 was closed by an accident near Luss.

Nearly 100 people have signed the online petition started by Chris Johnstone.

Japanese knotweed is spreading in Kilcreggan, a meeting heard last week.

A resident told Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council that the invasive plant has appeared in the Fairfield Gardens area, on land owned by Argyll and Bute Council.

He said: “The question is, if we wanted to sell our house but couldn’t sell it because of the knotweed, could we sue the council?”

Cllr Robert MacIntyre said he thought the plant was being sprayed but would check the situation.

And John Auld added: “There’s an awful lot more young Japanese Knotweed all over the wall by the pier, that is something that will create a major problem.”

  1. The problem that I see with the knotweed is that it has been sprayed with Glyphosate weed killer “Round up” or similar this kills all vegetation and the knotweed being a very vigorous plant is the first to recolonise the areas. The best available spray is a selective weed killer e.g. that intended for lawns, this kills the weeds but not the grass and then the area can me mown to produce grass areas not unsightly scorched patches. Check it out online!
