Speakers ranging from ‘Katie Morag’ author Mairi Hedderwick to leading crime writer Christopher Brookmyre will feature at the third Cove and Kilcreggan Book Festival

The annual event on November 26 and 27 will feature a special children’s festival, which will include Kim Geyer, author and illustrator of the Monty books, as well as Gourock-born Hedderwick.

Headline authors will also include poet and playwright Liz Lochhead and tell writer and historian Alistair Moffat.

Some £1,550 of the costs of the event will be met by a grant from Argyll and Bute Council’s third sector fund, as revealed here last week.

The rest of the £2,550 grant will be used for a feasibility study to explore ways of improving access to all areas and levels of the burgh hall.

Alison Morrison, chair of the hall directors, said: “We are extremely grateful to the officials and councillors, for recognizing and generously supporting our efforts to enhance social inclusion, enrich the quality of life of residents and visitors, and build community capacity.

“We have established a Fit For the Future project which aims to ensure that the facilities, services and approach of the burgh hall meet the current and future needs, aspirations, demographics and diversity of the communities we serve.

“Last year with the generous support of a third sector grant we were able to make the burgh hall more inclusive for those with hearing and mobility challenges by installing a PA and hearing loop system and specialised seats.

“This year we hope to go further by enhancing the accessibility to more of the hall’s facilities.”
