£8,000 grants to Helensburgh and Lomond community groups planned

Good causes ranging from a foodbank to the staging of a musical look set to share over £8,000 from Argyll and Bute Council.

The largest payment recommended by council officials is £2,550 to Cove Burgh Hall, to help fund the annual book festival and a feasibility study for disabled access to the first floor.

The second highest payment would be to Helensburgh and Lomond Autism – £1,973 to help provide social activities for children with autism during school holidays.

Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank, which issues around 100 bags of food every month, recommended to receive £1,500 towards its running costs,

West of Scotland Military Wives Choir is set to receive £950 to provide a baby-sitting service during practice sessions.

And Helensburgh Savoy’s production of Oklahoma! in November would be supported by a £780 grant, while Kirkmichael Community Development Group is expected to get a £500 payment to support community rugby and other sports for young people, as well as a day trip for pensioners.

All the grants from the council’s third sector fund need to be approved by elected councillors at the meeting of the Helensburgh and Lomond area committee on Monday evening.
