Information superhighway is bypassing Cove

Homes in part of Cove have been without broadband internet for 11 days, and service across the rest of the Rosneath Peninsula has seen frequent interruptions.

Furious residents found themselves unable to work from home or access online TV on Friday February 12, and say that despite repeated assurances, the service has still not been restored.

BT say engineers would check the local exchange and equipment today (Tuesday February 23).

A spokesman said: “They have already attended some homes or businesses on the back of fault reports, but there are currently no outstanding faults.

“Anyone with an outstanding fault should report this to their service provider and the appropriate teams will look into this.”

But some residents on Shore Road say they have lost patience as they still cannot access the internet unless they use the patchy local 3G service.

Most of the Rosneath Peninsula was due to get superfast fibre optic broadband by the end of last year, but that date has now been delayed by up to six months.

Parts of Cove and Ardpeaton which use the Coulport exchange are not included in that upgrade though, and an interactive map online says online that BT is ‘exploring solutions’.

At Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council last week residents joked that anyone thinking of buying the new homes proposed for a site opposite Loch View in Ardpeaton should be warned that they would not be able to get broadband.
