News in brief: Parking problems, heritage trail launch

IMG_4665There is frequently nowhere to park in Kilcreggan village, a meeting heard this week.

John Auld told Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council that more parking spaces should be identified: “There is nowhere to park in Kilcreggan village.

“There are cars sitting outside local businesses for days and weeks on end.

“When the Waverley comes in during the summer there are cars parked right along the pavement.”

There were no suggestions about where additional space could be found though, so chairman Nick Davies suggested that councillors park the issue for the time being.

A travelling exhibition run by the Glasgow Institute of Architects will visit Kilcreggan from March 19 to 26.

The event will also see the official launch of the Rosneath Peninsula Heritage Trails – a guide to the west of the peninsula was published last year, and the leaflet for the eastern area is about to be printed.

  1. I brought this up a few months ago and it was brushed aside then too. Burying Ones head is not going to help at all. I thought that the Community Council were the people who were able to do something about community concerns.

  2. There is some room for more car park space, although it would need a fair bit of engineering and/or loss of green space; the area between the pier and the junction of the B833 and Portkil Road could be infilled in the same way as the car park by the bus shelter, giving perhaps another 15-20 spaces. There’s also room for 8-12 spaces by the old stone pier, although the low elevation might make this area vulnerable to flooding in storms.
