Historic yacht club headquarters in Rhu up for sale

RNCYC

The Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Clubhouse and grounds in Rhu has been put on the market.

Estate agents Savills are marketing the 4.6 acre site, including the B-listed clubhouse building which was built in 1857, as a development opportunity.

Yacht clubs have been based at the impressive site on the Gareloch for nearly 80 years – the Royal Northern moved there from Bute in 1937, and it has been headquarters of RNCYC since clubs merged in 1978.

The property still has its original features and rooms enjoy views over the grounds, Rhu Bay and the Firth of Clyde.

Savills’ website states: “The clubhouse has a grand towered entrance which leads in to a beautiful hall and staircase.

“The ground floor comprises a number of large formal rooms which have been used for weddings, as well as a bar and seating area, kitchen and storage. Rooms on the first floor are accessed off an impressive landing which looks over the entrance hall.”

It adds that initial discussions over planning issues have already taken place – more details are available on Savills’ website.
