Shortlist announced for Scottish sailing awards

Sailors and volunteers from Helensburgh, Rhu, Cove and Loch Lomond have been shortlisted for national awards.

Cove Sailing Club’s race committee is shortlisted for the official of the year award in the RYA Scotland annual awards.

And Duncan Hepplewhite from Sailingfast and Loch Lomond Sailing Club is in the running for coach of the year.

Calum Bell of Helensburgh and Loch Lomond sailing clubs has been shortlisted for class academy sailor of the year.

And Lorenzo Chiavarini from the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club is shortlisted for performance of the year.

Claire Caffrey of RYA Scotland said: “The great thing about the annual awards is that it brings to light a number of stories of success from all different areas of our sport and from across Scotland.

“Every year we are astonished by the tales of commitment and hard work that go into making our sport what it is by volunteers and clubs.

“Hopefully some of these stories inspire lots of other people to get more involved with the sport, learn new things and take on some different challenges.”

The shortlist was decided by a panel consisting of Alistair Vallance of Yachting Life magazine, Jane Kerr from the sportscotland Trust, Rhu man Terence Brownrigg, the RYA regional rules advisor for Scotland, and RYA Scotland chairman Tony Gorzkowski.
