The public has been warned to beware of a large ‘sink hole’ which has opened up on the beach at Cardross.

Situated on a part of the shore which is occasionally used by horse riders, anglers, bait diggers and dog walkers, the hole is particularly dangerous when covered by the tide.Cardross Beach 2

It was spotted by John F Robins, who said the sand in that area is very unstable and the hole appears to have been caused by two sections of a buried pipe having been separated.

“I hope people will be careful when using the beach at Cardross,” he said.

“This hole and the shifting sand around it could easily trap someone. At high tide this area is usually only under a few inches of water.

“It now suddenly drops to around eight feet deep. If it is their responsibility I hope Scottish Water will make it a priority to rectify the situation.”
