A new link path between Arrochar and the Three Lochs Way was formally opened on last Saturday by the chief executive of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Gordon Watson praised the work of Helensburgh and District Access Trust in making the path possible before cutting the ribbon to declare the path open.

With a grant from the national park topped up with some funding by the access trust, the path was constructed using locally available materials as well as road planings donated by Argyll and Bute Council.

The path will make it much easier for both local people and long distance walkers and mountain bikers who want to access the popular Three Lochs Way long distance walking route.

It also completes the circular ‘Hidden Heritage’ trail, a more local route which links Arrochar and Tarbet and introduces visitors to the area’s fascinating history.

After the opening ceremony, everyone walked up the new path with youngsters enjoying a treasure hunt located along the route.

After their exertions all retired to the Three Villages Hall where local community organisations helped round things off with the essential cuppa!

Meanwhile the access trust’s struggle to obtain enough funds to build a path linking Garelochhead with the Three Lochs Way continues.

The trust has obtained about 50% of the funds required from SportScotland but needs another substantial sum to be able to contract the work.

Multiple applications for funding have been submitted to various bodies and the trust is hoping for success with these before the offer of existing funding is withdrawn.
