Clash of heavyweight journos planned for second book festival

Cove and Kilcreggan’s Book Festival will be taking a leaf out of Edinburgh’s book this year, with a debate as well as author interviews and readings.

The two-day festival on November 28-29 is aiming to build on the success of the success of the inaugural event last year.

And now it’s been confirmed that the Sunday – the eve of St Andrew’s Day – will include what promises to be a robust debate between two of the best-known faces in Scottish journalism – Iain MacWhirter of the Sunday Herald and the Daily Telegraph’s Alan Cochrane.

The pair disagree strongly on Scottish independence and indeed many other issues, and both published books in the wake of the referendum – Disunited Kingdom: How Westminster Won A Referendum But Lost Scotland and Alex Salmond, My Part in His Downfall, respectively.

Broadcaster, journalist and Kilcreggan resident Ruth Wishart will be chairing the debate.

The previous day (Saturday November 28) Cove Burgh Hall will play host to some of the best-known names in Scottish crime writing – Val McDermid and Denise Mina will star in the afternoon event, while Willie McIlvanney will take the stage for the launch event that morning.

Full details will be revealed in the coming weeks – check coveburghhall.uk nearer the time.
