Garelochhead water mains burst caused flooding

A series of bursts in water mains has left residents in the Garelochhead area seething in recent days, with some homes flooded and many seeing their water supplies repeatedly cut off.

Scottish Water says the problem has now been fixed and being traced to a faulty pressure release valve.

But residents have complained of water repeatedly being cut off without warning, while the home of a disabled person was under several inches of floodwater.

“They have fixed it several times already this week and it has just burst up through the road,” said a Whistlefield lady.

“If it has to be fixed it has to be fixed – apart from not telling me they were turning off water it hasn’t been too bad (though I had a bath in two inches of water this morning!).

“In fairness though there have been several vans there day and night so they have been taking it seriously.”

A Scottish Water spokesperson said a faulty pressure release valve on the water network had been replaced this morning (Wednesday).

“This follows investigations into the cause of a number of recent bursts in Garelochhead,” she added.

“The issue should now be resolved as a result of this repair work and we are currently assisting one customer who may have been affected by flooding as a result of one of these bursts.”
