Community garden taking root in Rosneath

An appeal for new volunteers has been issued by Rosneath Community Garden, which is now in its fifth year.

Set up in 2019, the garden is in the grounds of St Modan’s Church in Rosneath.

Volunteer Jane Wright said: “The garden produce has been a whopping success, largely due to Rosneath Primary School growing on plants from seeds and the Cubs helping to plant these out.

“Success also relies on a small, dedicated group of volunteers but more ‘would be’ gardeners and willing helpers are urgently sought.”

The garden was established to provide space for people to develop practical and productive skills at the same time as connecting with nature and seasonal demands and introducing broader biodiversity to the village.

Vegetables are the main priority, dispersed to those attending various events at the church hall, with the occasional surplus being donated to the food bank.

“Produce is free for the taking, though donations are certainly welcome,” Jane added. “Despite this, folk seem reluctant to help themselves however – slowly this is changing after the installation of a donations box.”

The garden is usually ‘manned’ on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
