Drop-in event for new sports hub in Rosneath

A sports hub community drop-in event is being held in Rosneath this week.

And a pop-up charity shop in the village was so successful that it looks like becoming a regular event.

Anyone interested in potential sport and physical activity opportunities in the village is invited to the event on Wednesday May 1 from 3pm to 5pm in the Howie Pavilion.

You can have an informal chat and find out what could be on offer from Live Argyll community sports hub officer Allan Wright, in partnership with the Princess Louise Hall and Howie Pavilion committee.

The Princess Louise Hall charity has also run its first ever sale at the Howie Pavilion in the village’s park.

“The hall was open for the event and visitors were encouraged to have a good look around and see it for themselves,” said chairwoman Maggie Irving.

“About 150 people came along and we raised a staggering £607 which will go towards a survey to assess any asbestos within the building.

“It looks like being a regular event with the next one in the summer.

“It was suggested we include a table selling pre-loved tools – so this is a chance to have a good rummage and clear-out in the shed.”

Maggie is also a woodturner and has produced a pen from a small piece of ancient yew tree damaged by storms this year.

She continued: “Some small pieces of the tree have been drying and will be used to make pens and keyrings, with funds raised going to PLH.

“Pre-orders will be accepted and special presentation fountain pens for weddings will be available come the summer, again pre-order only.”
