Waverley Wednesdays for Kilcreggan this summer

The main summer timetable for the Waverley on the Clyde has been published, with changes for Kilcreggan sailings.

The popular cruises to Loch Long will now be on Wednesdays rather than Tuesdays, as in recent years.

But the historic paddle steamer will still call at the village’s 126 year-old pier twice a week this summer.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Waverley being sold for £1 by Caledonian MacBrayne to Waverley Steam Navigation Co Ltd., a company formed by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society, and a special cruise on August 8 will commemorate that event.

Earlier this year it was announced that the Waverley will steam into Kilcreggan on her first sailing of 2024 – at 12.10 on Friday May 17, en route to Dunoon, Tighnabruaich and a cruise round Skate Island.

But this week the main Glasgow and Clyde Coast summer timetable, from Friday June 28 to Sunday August 25, was announced, with the charity which owns the steamer saying there would be ‘the greatest variety of sailings ever’.

The Waverley will call at Kilcreggan on Saturdays July 13, 27 and August 10 on her way to Rothesay and Tighnabruaich, with a bus bringing passengers from Helensburgh to the Rosneath Peninsula.

And on alternate Thursdays from July 4 until August 15 the steamer will go from Kilcreggan to Largs, Millport and Brodick, with the option of cruising the North Arran coast.

But the most frequent sailings will be every Wednesday from July 3 until July 31, heading to Blairmore, Loch Long and Loch Goil.

There will also be a rare visit to Arrochar on Sunday August 18 on a CRSC nominated excursion, while on Tuesday August 20 there will be a ‘Clyde Castles Cruise’ past Garroch Head and up Loch Fyne to Inveraray, with views of up to ten iconic castles along the way.

Booking is now open on the website.
