Two people from Kilcreggan have reached the finals of the 2016 Scottish Health Awards.

John Webb, one of the Garelochhead and Rosneath Peninsula First responders, is one of three finalists in the volunteer category.

And Suzanne Byrne also from Kilcreggan, is nominated as one of the three finalists in the nurse of the year category.

John (right) also received an achievement award from Trossachs Search and Rescue last week whilst at the launch of the 100th pad in the area on Inchmurrin.

The award in recognition of his commitment to the First Responders, his efforts and involvement with Heartstart training and for his support with the installation of public access defibrillators on the peninsula.

And last year he was named Argyll and Bute’s volunteer of the year.

Police Scotland are investigating after all four tyres on a car parked in Nelson Place, Helensburgh, were deliberately punctured.

And witnesses have also been asked to call 101 after vandals smashed a window at a house in Feorlin Way, Garelochhead, late last Friday night (October 21).

Meanwhile police continue to carry out speed checks in and around Helensburgh – two drivers have been charged with speeding this week, with several others warned.

Young people aged 14-25 are being encouraged by Argyll and Bute Council to stand as a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament  in elections next March.

Two Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) are elected from every Parliamentary constituency in Scotland as well as two members from partnering national voluntary organisations.

The council is looking for two young people to represent Argyll and Bute and one to represent Helensburgh and Lomond – they should either live, work, or study in Scotland to be eligible.

The call for candidates ends on Monday October 31. For more information see www.syp.org.uk/stand4syp or email roanna.clark@argyll-bute.gov.uk
