Jackie Baillie holds on to her constituency in 2016 election

Labour’s Jackie Baillie has defied the odds to retain the Dumbarton constituency seat she has held since the Scottish Parliament was formed in 1999.

Her majority over the SNP, represented this time by Gail Robertson, was cut to just 109 votes, with the Conservatives’ Maurice Corry’s vote increasing in line with national trends.

Jackie was singled out for attack before the election by the pro-SNP newspaper The National, which said she had ‘gone rogue’ in a front page splash, but turned this to her advantage in election literature, saying she would continue to represent her voters and argue to retain Trident, regardless of party policy.

The full results, listed alphabetically, are below:

BAILLIE, Jackie (Scottish Labour) – 13,522

CORRY, Maurice (Scottish Conservatives) – 4,891

MORTON, Aileen (Scottish Liberal Democrats) – 1,131

MUIR, Andrew (Independent) – 641

ROBERTSON, Gail (Scottish National Party) – 13,413

Mr Corry, an Argyll and Bute councillor, was one of three Conservative list MSPs elected for the West of Scotland region.
