No bonfire for fireworks night in Helensburgh

The annual charity fireworks display in Helensburgh will go ahead this year – but without a bonfire.

Argyll and Bute Council says it is working to make sure the Helensburgh Round Table event at the seafront goes ahead on Saturday November 2.

Improvement works on West Clyde Street as part of the CHORD project, which are running well behind schedule, mean that ‘some alterations’ will have to be made, said a council statement today (Tuesday)

The Helensburgh and Lomond area committee will see the plans for final approval when they meet next week.

The statement added: “The fireworks display will take place at the pier car park as usual, although without a bonfire.

“ Local councillors, council staff and contractors are working with the organisers, Helensburgh Round Table, to ensure that people are able to gather and enjoy the display – space for spectators is more restricted than usual because of the works.

“However, with the understanding and co-operation of the public, the Helensburgh  fireworks display will once again be another great event for everyone.”
