Affordable housing plan for Helensburgh

Plans for 12 affordable new flats to be built next to Helensburgh’s Victoria Integrated Care Centre have been unveiled.

Dunbritton Housing Association’s plans for the development at 89 East King Street are currently being considered by Argyll and Bute Council planners.

A parking court with room for 16 vehicles is also part of the proposal, which consists of one and two-bed properties over three storeys.

A decision is expected by late July, with plans now available to be viewed by the public online.

A design statement said it would provide ‘much-needed, affordable housing provision for the local area’.

It added:  “The proposed site layout incorporates 12 flats for affordable rent over three storeys.

“The block has been located to the rear of the site, with a new access proposed from East King Street, providing direct entry to a shared surface parking court. Pedestrian access is also provided by way of a 1.2m wide footpath.

“The development provides two areas of south facing open amenity space to the front of the block. A small area of communal garden space is also located to the north of the block.

“The private parking court provides a total of 16 spaces for the development.”

It acknowledges that this is fewer spaces than expected by the council, but said that in other affordable developments locally there had only been an average of one car per household.

The plans can be viewed on the council’s website – the reference number is 21/00807/PP.
