Charges to return soon on Argyll and Bute car parks

Car park charges will be imposed again from July 11, Argyll and Bute Council announced today.

The authority has also given dates when public toilets in Helensburgh and Rhu will reopen – but there is no date yet for the toilets in Kilcreggan.

All of the council’s car parks, including Duck Bay and Luss on Loch Lomondside, will be open tomorrow – many have been closed since March because of Covid-19 restrictions.

There will also be a phased reopening of toilets, which will see those in Inveraray, Bowmore and Oban open tomorrow, Helensburgh pier on July 6 and Rhu on July 15.

There is no mention of Kilcreggan in a list on the council’s website of 35 public toilets which will open this month.

A council spokesperson said: “Some of our less frequently used facilities will remain closed for the time being as stated on the website. We’ll review this in August.

“This phased approach will enable the council to keep both customers and staff safe and provide an enhanced cleaning regime during the summer period.

“The council is providing additional funding to provide the added cleanliness and will review this adjusted model in August.

“Public toilets will only remain open with the cooperation and responsible use by the public.

“To help support communities, as a result of irresponsible parking in recent weeks and to ensure priority parking spaces are maintained, wardens will be actively monitoring our road network and car parks.

“From July 11 the enforcement of car parking charges will resume.”

The council has repeated its advice to the public to:

  • Avoid busy popular beauty spots
  • Remain 2 metres apart
  • Don’t gather in large groups
  • Continue to wash your hands regularly
