Muted response to Argyll and Bute Council’s ‘meet the community’ approaches

The Barbour Road is single track with few passing places

Improvements to a single track road in Cove and Kilcreggan were the main areas of interest when councillors approached the community across Helensburgh and Lomond this summer.

With local area committee meetings being cut back, Argyll and Bute councillors discussed holding ‘meet the community’ sessions in the area.

But there were only eight responses to the council’s invitation, including community councils in Arrochar and Tarbet, who were said to be unsure what the letter was about, and Rhu and Shandon, who were unsure how the idea fitted with their role.

Two residents in Kilcreggan asked for a meeting in Cove Burgh Hall to discuss the Barbour Road, saying vegetation needed to be cut back and passing places were needed, with concern over motorists passing cyclists.

Helensburgh and Lomond Chamber of Commerce asked to discuss the summer festival, adding that areas of concern were ongoing CHORD points, parking, the maritime change plan, pierhead project and Colquhoun Square events space.

Ardencaple Football Club said next year would mark their 50th anniversary and inquired about council funding for events, while Helensburgh Community Council responded by saying it would be more than willing to meet.

The responses will be discussed at the council’s Helensburgh and Lomond area committee meeting on Thursday.

  1. I would agree Barbour Road is in need of attention .
Over the past 2 years I have complained about the neglect in Kilcreggan Village and other areas of Kilcreggan nothing happens it’s still the same .
Thankfully the Rainbow Centre on School Road has been sold ,the new owner had a busy weekend tiding up the neglect by ABC.
