Swimmers are set to take on the Clyde

Hardy swimmers will be crossing the Clyde from Kilcreggan to Greenock tomorrow (Saturday August 12).

Up to 32 people will take part in the annual Clyde Swim, organised by the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club (RWSABC).

Swimmers are expected to start the swim at Kilcreggan pier at about 3.45pm the last one is expected to reach the RWSABC clubhouse at the esplanade in Greenock by about 5.30pm, although in good conditions the first swimmers may arrive as early as 4.15pm

Four safety boats and at least 10 kayaks will provide safety cover and the swimmers will wear brightly coloured swim caps with individual numbers for ease of identification.

Peel Ports have asked mariners to take extra care – safety boats and the lead kayak will be working on VHF Ch 72 but will maintain a listening watch on Ch 12 and 16.

In the event of bad weather, an alternative course up and down the shore front of the Greenock esplanade will be used.
