The public will have a chance to comment on a cycleway in Cardross tomorrow, with councillors voicing concern over progress of the project.
Difficulties in acquiring land have been blamed for delays n the route, with compulsory purchase orders being suggested as an option.
But this could add another two years to the delays,, Argyll and Bute Council officials said last week.
Members of the Helensburgh and Lomond area committee noted their concern last week over issues with the project, asking for regular updates.
In the meantime, a consultation event has been arranged at short notice over the route through Cardross, for which the council has been given grants worth £190,000.
A statement said: “The council has secured funding to construct the section of the cycleway between Cardross station and the west side of the village through Cardross Park, and has developed options for a safe off-road walking and cycling route. The construction of this section will complete the cycleway.
“Locals are invited to drop-in to the event any time between 2pm and 7pm to have their say, which will allow the council to consult with landowners on the route to be constructed.”
The event will be held in Geilston Hall from 2pm to 7pm this Monday, June 19.
I have not seen the proposed route for the cycle/walkway but presume it does not pass through anyones living room.
Possibly the home owners unwilling to give up a tiny slice of their gardens are also sworn members of the environmental lobby but, not if involves their patch.
I sugges the council construct a path up to each side of the nimby’s gardens and let the cyclists and walkers do the rest.
If they do not support local projects it is time the considered moving to North Korea or some other similar place where their views on the power of the individual will be respected.
