News in brief: Helensburgh deli plan, internet safety talks, rescue boat called out

Plans for a new café, deli and restaurant in Helensburgh town centre have been revealed.

The former site of Curleys’ delicatessen on the corner of Colquhoun Square would be altered to include fencing and courtyard area if the plans by a Mr Will Smith are approved by Argyll and Bute Council.

Michael Curley’s business traded successfully from the site for several years before closing last year; he has now opened a new café on the south side of the square.

The plans can be seen on the council website – search for application number 16/03431/PP

Pupils at primary schools in Garelochhead, Kilcreggan and Rosneath are being given talks on internet safety by police.

The initiative is being undertaken by Police Scotland, in partnership with MoD Police and Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club.

Loch Lomond Rescue Boat was called out by Police Scotland on Sunday after a boat with three people aboard ran aground near Aldochlay.

Some members of the rescue boat crew entered the water to secure tow lines and manoeuvre the vessel before beginning to free it using the rescue boat.

After a short time the vessel was freed and towed to deeper water.
