Dozens of warships have sailed up the Clyde in preparation for a major NATO exercise due to start tomorrow (Saturday).

The latest Exercise Joint Warrior will run until Friday April 24, involving a total of 55 warships and submarines, 70 aircraft and around 13,000 personnel from 13 countries.

The Royal Navy would not give details of the ships at Faslane, Garelochhead and other locations on the Clyde, but said: “There will be significant naval and aerial activity off the west and east coast of Scotland, including amphibious landings on the west coast.”

The bi-annual Joint Warrior exercises are designed to improve joint operations between the participating countries’ armed forces.
