News in brief: First responders busy over Christmas, police appeal after break-ins

Community first responders on the Rosneath Peninsula were called out to three emergencies during the Christmas bank holidays.

The volunteers were called out at 4am on Christmas Day and twice on Boxing Day and will be maintaining their 24/7 cover throughout the Hogmanay period.

Earlier in December the group was presented with £300 from the Rosneath Peninsula Spinning and Textiles Workshop and £100 from the Lodge St Modan.

The money is funding a more robust kit bag as well as equipment and training tools.

Mooring cables were stolen from Rhu Marina, community councillors were told this month.

There had also been an attempted break-in at the Ardencaple Hotel cellar and a theft from a storage container on Lineside Walk, PC Andrew Crawford told Rhu and Shandon Community Council.

He said there had also been three break-ins to properties on Loch Lomondside on the weekend of December 6/7, and asked residents to check their own properties, remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police.
