Rough seas mean Waverley cannot leave south coast

Full steam into summer - PS Waverley
PS Waverley in sunnier climes – difficult conditions mean she cannot return to Scotland this weekend

Severe weather has forced the Waverley’s last sailings of the year in Scotland to be cancelled.

The world’s only remaining sea-going paddle steamer, the Waverley has been based on the south coast of England in recent weeks, after her usual summer season on the Clyde.

But scheduled sailings from Helensburgh and Kilcreggan have now had to be cancelled as the boat cannot return north to her usual home in Glasgow.

A statement from Waverley Excursions said that adverse weather conditions were to blame.

“Rough to very rough sea conditions are forecast,” it added,

“Regrettably this weekend’s sailings are cancelled. We wanted to give as much notice to minimise people’s inconvenience.”
