Silvers scoops five-year contract with Babcock

Rosneath firm Silvers Marine has announced that it has won a new five-year contract with Babcock International.

The deal will see the company servicing and maintaining a fleet of vessels for the Ministry of Defence.

In April Silvers and its boatyard was bought by GSS (Plant) Ltd – all Silvers staff were re-employed and GSS has now moved its head office and associated staff from Rhu Marina to the peninsula.

Silvers general manager Andrew Malcolm said this week: “I have been working on this since December last year as part of the tendering process – after many discussions and site visits this comes as excellent news.

“We have the skills at Silvers but with added security and investment from GSS our new owners we offer a fantastic facility that has been recognised and undoubtedly helped secure this deal.”

At the time of the sale, GSS said it aimed to develop the Rosneath facilities into a centre of excellence, aiming to employ more people and create apprenticeships; in May the company sponsored the Scottish Series – the country’s most prestigious yachting regatta.
