Decades of services to guiding in Kilcreggan were given a Royal reward in the New Year’s Honours List.
Sheena Edwards, of Portkil, was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the Girl Guides and to the community in Kilcreggan.
Sheena said she was ‘gobsmacked’ when she received a letter from the Cabinet Office in November.
“It came out of the blue,” she said.
“Although this has been awarded to me it is not really for me – it is for all those volunteers on the peninsula.
“It has to encompass all the other volunteers who give their time and skills.”
Sheena has been a Guider with 1st Cove and Kilcreggan Guides since 1985, assistant Brownie Guider with 1st Cove and Kilcreggan Brownies since 2008; she is also the movement’s Dunbartonshire county international adviser.
She also finds time to serve as minutes secretary of Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council , secretary of Cove Sailing Club, and director and minutes secretary for Cove Burgh Hall.
She is an elder and choir member at Craigrownie Parish Church, is a volunteer first responder locally and will be a volunteer member of the medical team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Sheena will receive the award from the Lord Lieutenant’s office and will attend a Royal garden party at Holyrood Palace later this year.
