Helensburgh RNLI crew were called out to a yacht which had suffered engine failure and had no mast yesterday (Wednesday).

At 4.53pm the Coastguard in Belfast asked the crew to launch after receiving a call for assistance from the owner of a 24-foot yacht which was in the Gareloch, off Rosneath Castle Caravan Park.

The yacht, with a single occupant on board, was on passage from Rosneath to Sandbank when it experienced engine failure.

As the mast had been lowered for the passage, hoisting a sail was not an option.

The lifeboat launched at 5.01pm and three minutes later the volunteer crew reported they were alongside the yacht.

They towed it to Rhu Marina for engine repairs and once the yacht was secured alongside the lifeboat returned to base.
