A new blu-ray projector will mean better big screen quality than ever before in Cove and KIlcreggan Film Society’s new programme.
The season starts this Saturday (October 5) with full HD screenings in Cove Burgh Hall of children’s favourite Madagascar 3 and Brad Pitt vehicle World War Z.
Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith and Chris Rock star in Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (PG), which sees Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple.
Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a travelling circus. Doors open at 2.45 and the film starts at 3pm.
With many scenes filmed in Glasgow city centre, World War Z features Pitt as United Nations employee Gerry Lane traversing the world in a battle to stop a zombie pandemic.
An adaptation of Max Brooks’ cult novel about an undead plague that has forced those not infected to seek safety on the sea or in remote Nova Scotia, it features big-budget special effects and was one of the biggest box office hits this summer.
Doors open at 7.15 and the film starts at 7.30.; admission is £4, concessions £3 – or film society membership is £20, giving you entrance to 10 films.
The first Thursday evening showing is Quartet on October 17; directed by Dustin Hoffman, it stars Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith and Billy Connolly in a story about a home for retired musicians where the annual concert preparations are disrupted by the arrival of an eternal diva.
November’s film, on Thursday the 21st, is Silver Linings Playbook, a romantic comedy starring Bradley Cooper, Robert de Niro and Jennifer Lawrence.
Another of this year’s blockbusters, Star Trek: Into Darkness, J J Abrams’ second take on the cult science fiction series, stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch; it will be shown on Saturday December 7.
The new year will start with Now You See Me on Thursday January 9, a thriller about an FBI agent and an Interpol detective tracking a team of illusionists who pull off bank raids during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.
You’ve Been Trumped, the award-winning documentary about the controversial golf and housing development in Aberdeenshire by billionaire Donald Trump, is shown on February 13.
Mud, the moving story of two young boys finding a fugitive (Matthew McConaughey) who is trying to hide from bounty hunters on an island in the Mississippi, while hoping to find his lost love Reese Witherspoon, is shown on Thursday February 27.
Classic Western the Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance is shown on Thursday March 13, while the films for April 10 and the AGM on April 24 will be announced nearer to the time.
The Saturday films in October and December are included in the Film Society programme and no charge will be made to members attending. There will be the usual charge for children’s films.
There will be an entry charge for the final Saturday Cinema on March 22 – the films for this date will be decided later.
For Thursday films the doors open at 7.15 and the films start at 7.45.
