The second Sea Change festival is being held in Cove and Kilcreggan next weekend to coincide with midsummer.
There will be events for all ages in Cove and Kilcreggan from Friday June 21 to Sunday June 23.
“Sea Change is a festival which celebrates living in a coastal environment, and which aims to involve every age group in the community,” said Ruth Wishart, one of the organisers.
“This year we are incorporating the Year of Natural Scotland with events at Cove Park, the Linn Gardens, and Parkhead Garden.
“The fancy dress parade from Kilcreggan to Cove and the pop-up Mermaid Cafe in Cove Burgh Hall, gives everyone the chance to dress up and have fun, as does the salsa event in the hall on Saturday evening.
“Because of the huge effort everyone has put in, most of the events are free and we look forward to a memorable midsummer.”
Tuning into the year of natural heritage, the first event at Cove Park on Friday night features a reception and the chance to meet artist Alison Turnbull, who is working on an art book about Linn Gardens at Cove.

It’s a case of ‘on your bike’ the next morning for the fancy dress parade from Kilcreggan (opposite the medical centre) to Cove Burgh Hall – assemble at 11am for an 11.30 start.
The theme is pirates, mermaids, and anything shore-related, with prizes for the best bike/rider combos. But prams and pedestrians are welcome too!
The Mermaid Café is back by popular demand where you can get soup and a sandwich before settling down to hear Joyce Falconer present The Mermaid’s Tale at 2pm followed by community singing of sea shanties.
Children’s artwork will be on show there, and on featured lampposts along the parade route.
On the Saturday evening there will be the chance to swing your hips salsa-style courtesy of music and demos from The Academy of Salsa in Cove Burgh Hall.
Tickets are £10 from the Café at Kilcreggan and Kilcreggan Post Office or they can be booked online at ronatmc@hotmail.com. Otherwise it’s £12 on the door – bring your own refreshments.
On Sunday Alison Turnbull will be on site at the Linn Gardens talking about her project with Jim and Jamie Taggart from 11am.
Café at Kilcreggan will be doing a special Sea Change deal of soup and Pirate’s Paninis or Mermaid Munchies for just £5.
Then it’s on to the spectacular Parkhead Gardens at Rosneath (up the road to the caravan park and veer right.)
From 3-4pm there’s a sumptuous bill of fare with the Peninsula Choir under the direction of Stephen Adam, with Helen and Pippa Reid-Foster on violin and harp, and a special ;intervention’ from actors Veronica Leer and Joyce Falconer.
