Creative Scotland boost for arts centre

Cove Park is one of just 16 projects in Scotland to receive investment from Creative Scotland this week.

The centre on the Peaton Hill has been given a development award of £25,000 to refurbish and enlarge its artists’ centre and accommodation – with a provisional stage two award of £621,633.

Cove Park offers residencies on its 50-acre site which attract artists from all over the world; the current accommodation includes imaginatively converted shipping containers and one of the ‘pods’ used in the television series Castaway which was filmed on the island on Taransay.

Andrew Dixon, chief executive of Creative Scotland, welcomed the announcements and added: “Great cultural facilities in every part of Scotland allow many more people to experience, enjoy and learn about a range of creative work.”

Other projects receiving investment include Film City Glasgow, Campbeltown Picture House and Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.

  1. It would be nice to see this Park being part of the local community. I realise it is a registered charity but the people who come from all over the world pay for the privilege and I never see any attempt for Cove Park to integrate in any way with the rest of the Peninsula and Helensburgh communities.
