UPDATE: At 16.47 the council announced that the road had completely reopened, adding: “The roads team have been working hard to clean up after the spill and get the road open as quickly as possible.”
The A817 Haul Road through Glen Fruin is still closed, more than 48 hours after an oil spill, Argyll and Bute Council confirmed today (Thursday).
A spokesperson said: “There was very heavy rain last night and it looked very greasy so as a precaution it remained closed.”
At 5pm on Wednesday the council had issued a statement saying the road was expected to reopen that evening after temporary traffic lights were put in place.
Cars and coaches taking hundreds of workers to Coulport and Faslane have been forced to divert through Helensburgh on the A814 rather than taking the fast route from Loch Lomondside.
