Hand ferry responsibility to Transport Scotland – MP

Responsibility for the Kilcreggan to Gourock ferry service should be taken away from SPT as soon as possible, Argyll and Bute’s MP has said.

Alan Reid has written to Scottish Transport Minister Keith Brown and asked him to transfer responsibility for the ‘failing’ service to Transport Scotland as a matter of urgency.

Mr Reid said: “The responses that I have received from SPT to my letters of complaint about the Kilcreggan ferry have been unsatisfactory. SPT clearly have no strategy for making improvements to this failing ferry service.

“SPT do, however, want Transport Scotland to take over responsibility for the service. Transport Scotland are far from perfect, but they do have far more experience than SPT of overseeing ferry services.

“Since SPT don’t want to be bothered with this ferry service any longer, and have made a complete mess of it, the Transport Minister must take the service off them and give it to Transport Scotland. Transport Scotland must then get proper vessels in place before the autumn storms arrive.”
