Loch Lomond rescue boat called out to injured walkers

The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat has been called out three times in as many days.

Last night the volunteer crew was called to a medical emergency on the West Highland Way, treating and immobilising the arm of an injured woman before transporting her to an ambulance.

On Bank Holiday Monday, May 2, the crew was called out twice, the first time when Police Scotland asked them to deal with a boat 200 metres from Rowardennan with no propulsion.

It was found to have a length of rope snagged around its prop. A member of the rescue boat crew entered the water and managed to free the rope allowing the boat and its solo male occupant to carry on under their own power.

Later that afternoon the crew was again paged by police to another medical emergency on the West Highland Way – a 63 year-old woman had suffered head injuries as a result of falling onto rocks.

Once on scene members of the crew assessed the victim and after a short time it was decided she would require hospital treatment, so she was immobilised using a collar as a precaution due to the nature of her injuries.

The crew then transported the patient to a nearby field where an air ambulance arrived, transporting her to hospital.
