Another major housing plan for Helensburgh has been revealed.

Developers CALA Homes have applied for permission to build 145 houses on the 14.3-acre Sawmill field site north of the A814.

Surrounded by trees and open space to the east, the A814 Cardross Road and the Clyde to the south and the new Hermitage Academy to the west, the site was allocated for that number of homes in Argyll and Bute’s controversial local development plan.

An access and design statement by the developers says: “The proposed residential development at Sawmill field has been the subject of a clear, logical and well considered design process.

“It has followed the design principles outlined in designing streets, prioritizing the interests of context, landscape and setting, and then incorporated the functional requirements of the development in an integrated and cohesive way.

“The resulting masterplan confirms a varied and strong sense of place. It is high quality in terms of amenity, design, layout and materials, and will provide a safe, pleasant and sustainable environment for its residents and visitors.”

Of the 145 homes, 25% would be affordable. Details of the plan are available on the council’s website – the reference number is 16/00643/PP

Two weeks ago Persimmon Homes announced a plan for nearly 100 houses off Glenoran Road in Helensburgh.
